Youth Project Ideas

HSLC has youth volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups, and families. Many of our opportunities offer youth volunteers a chance to work independently and develop time management, project management, communications, and other skills.

Ongoing Needs

Conduct a Fundraiser

We love fundraisers!  They are critical to our all-volunteer organization.  Funding contributions support everything we do, from supplies to vet bills to office expenses.  Honestly, every penny helps. Your fundraiser can be as simple as offering to do odd jobs for neighbors in exchange for a donation.  Or, get creative and make things to sell, hold an event or party, partner with a local business… the possibilities are endless!  Boost your effectiveness by coupling your fundraiser with an awareness or adoption campaign.

Host a Pet Food Drive

Support our Loudoun Pet Pantry!  To learn more about the Pet Pantry and ideas on conducting a food drive, click here.  As with fundraising, this can be a simple or super-creative effort, and integrating an awareness or adoption campaign with your pet food drive is highly encouraged and appreciated!

SEASONED Youth

We offer these volunteer jobs to youth who have volunteered with us for a while.  Applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Help at Adoption Drives

Act as an “animal specialist” at adoption drives, providing potential adopters with information on the available animals.  Help monitor the animals to ensure they are comfortable at the event.  Also, provide general support with setup, takedown, and other tasks.

Event Support

We need youth support at some of our fundraisers and other events where we might have an information booth or table.  This might include planning meetings, designing/building items needed for the event, etc.  At the event, you might be conducting children’s games, providing information to event attendees, or soliciting donations or future volunteer help.  And, if you have a particular skill you think might be useful at an event (such as face painting or photography), let us know!

Cat Condo Care

This is a great job for a family or with an adult if you are under 18. We usually house some of the cats we have for adoption at a local pet supply store.  These cats need regular attention and maintenance.  This includes cleaning the kennels and litter boxes, feeding the cats, and giving them some attention.  One of our existing Cat Condo Care experts will provide you with a training session.  You must be able to commit to a weekly time slot for at least three months.
